  • Be a reassuring point of contact at what can be a difficult time

Provide information & guidance

  • Explain the diagnosis in plain terms
  • Give advice about benefits and registration (such as being registered as sight impaired).
  • Share information about equipment and practical aids that can help

Connecting you to Services

  • Refer patients to rehabilitation or low vision services
  • Help access local community support
  • Liaise with hospital eye clinic staff to ensure early, joined up support

  • Patients newly diagnosed with an eye condition
  • People whose vision has been changing
  • Family members and carers who need guidance too

In short a vision support officer acts as a bridge between the medical side of eye care and the practical, everyday support a person needs when facing sight loss so nobody has to navigate it alone.
